Last night I participated in my second Relay for Life. Yet again, it was such an amazing experience. I participated with my sorority Alpha Mu Sigma, but many other clubs and organizations from around campus formed teams and participated as well. Why am I telling you this? So you do it too! Most college campuses and many towns around the country hold an event every year. I have never met a person who has participated and said he or she regretted it the next day.
So heres the deal,
You lose:
- One night of sleep
- The feeling in your legs or feet temporarily from walking/being cold
- One less night of partying and bad decisions
You gain:
- Some new/closer friendships (because everyone is your friend when you are cold at 2am and just want to snuggle)
- Obviously new photos for your Facebook because I mean, pics or it didn't happen right?
- Memories that will last a lifetime
- The knowledge that you are helping to finish the fight against cancer
- Some great stories to tell all your other lame friends who didn't participate the next day.
So whatever your reasoning behind participating in Relay For Life, the bottom line is you're doing a great thing and you will have a TON of fun doing it.
We all know someone who has been affected by cancer. Cancer is a horrible disease that takes too many good people too soon. By giving up one night a year, we can be that much closer to ending this tragic disease forever. But if we all give up one night a year more people will get to celebrate a BIRTHDAY EVERY YEAR! (Because everyone loves birthdays!)
So, what are you waiting for! Look up a Relay For Life in your area. Don't have one? Start one! It will change your life!
